MURFREESBORO, TN - WGNS has another news story to report involving technology, this time focusing on the license plate readers attached to multiple police cars in Murfreesboro. Recently, one of these crime-fighting cameras captured a plate on the back of a Honda Accord, alerting officers that it had previously been reported as stolen.

Upon receiving the alert, the nearby patrol officer activated the blue lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop. This incident occurred on New Salem Highway, close to Middle Tennessee Boulevard, notably near the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, A.K.A. the local jail.

During the stop, the officer informed the woman driving the car that her license plate had been reported stolen, although the vehicle itself was not. However, the issue surrounding the tag was quickly overshadowed by a more significant discovery. Authorities found what appeared to be three large rocks of methamphetamine inside the four-door sedan the 39-year-old woman was driving.

In a moment of desperation, the driver attempted to deflect responsibility by claiming the car was not hers—asserting that not only the car belonged to someone else, but so did the license plate and drugs. The police already knew the tag belonged to someone else, which was the reason for the traffic stop. Her strategy backfired as the officer conducted a warrants check and revealed that she was wanted in Sumner County for a drug possession charge. The drug behind that charge was none other than methamphetamine. Additionally, she had failed to appear in court, further complicating her situation.

Rather than walking the woman to jail, officers provided her with a ride to the detention center located less than 900 feet away from the traffic stop. While her immediate destination is the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, her next stop will be in Gallatin, TN, where the Sumner County jail is situated approximately 45 miles down the road.
