Upcoming Hearing for Juan Charco in Connection with Devon Loritts' Death

MURFREESBORO, TN - WGNS has learned that a suspect accused of gunning down a man in a dispute over a vehicle is scheduled to appear in a Rutherford County Circuit Courtroom next Wednesday (February 19, 2025). The shooting unfolded outside of a Joe B. Jackson Parkway gas station on May 15, 2024 in Murfreesboro.

When Murfreesboro Police arrived at the scene, they located 23-year-old Devon Loritts of Georgia who was shot and later died. Rutherford County Assistant District Attorney Trevor Lynch stated… The altercation was captured on video surveillance at the gas station.

Juan Charco, 27, is charged with the first-degree murder of Loritts and the attempted first-degree murder of his brother Eric Mitchell. The Assistant DA further explained what is believed to have unfolded during the incident…

Murfreesboro Police initially told WGNS in an email, “The preliminary investigation reveals the incident may have started over the disputed ownership of a car, a Chrysler 300.  Loritts had previously purchased the car from Charco.” The suspect reportedly lived in Antioch.

In the obituary for Loritts, it showed that he had a passion for music and was an aspiring rapper, musician and content creator in Atlanta, Georgia.

Again, Juan Charco is charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, theft of property, reckless endangerment, and employing a firearm with the intent to go armed (during a dangerous felony).  Court records show the upcoming arraignment is on February 19, 2025 and a plea hearing has been scheduled for March 11, 2025. Charco will appear in the Circuit Courtroom of Judge Barry Tidwell.

Detective William Pullias with the Murfreesboro Police Department is the lead investigator in the case.
