Rutherford County Fire and Rescue has shared important information regarding a February recall that homeowners should be aware of, as they may be affected by the kitchen appliance in question. As a result, consumers are urged to exercise caution after LG announced a safety recall for their Slide-In and Freestanding Ranges equipped with front-mounted knobs. In response to recent reports, LG is offering a free warning label and placement instructions to remind users to utilize the Lock Out/Control Lock function on the range control panel. This feature is designed to disable the activation of the heating elements when the range is not in use, helping to prevent unintentional activation.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received at least 86 reports of incidents where the front-mounted knobs were unintentionally activated. Alarmingly, these LG ranges have been linked to over 28 fires, with five of those fires causing significant property damage totaling more than $340,000. Additionally, at least eight minor injuries, including burns, have been reported, along with three incidents involving pet fatalities.
In an effort to enhance safety, consumers are advised to keep children and pets away from the range knobs and to ensure that the knobs are turned off before leaving home or going to bed. It is also crucial to avoid leaving objects on the range when it is not in use.
For those affected, the recall covers specific LG Slide-In and Freestanding Ranges with front-mounted knobs. The model and serial numbers can be found on the inside of the oven door or in the storage drawer located at the bottom of the oven. These ranges were manufactured in Mexico and Korea and have been sold at various retailers, including Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other appliance stores nationwide, as well as on LG.com, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $2,650 from 2015 through January 2025.
