RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Several people are starting the year off with a bang in Rutherford County, with one lucky recipient winning half a million dollars in the Powerball Double Play. The winning ticket was claimed on January 8.

A scratch-off ticket purchased at a Twice Daily Gas Station in Smyrna allowed John Brantley to take home a cool $10,000 a couple of weeks ago. He bought his ticket at the gas station in front of Home Depot on Sam Ridley Parkway.

Sitting less than 10 days into February, there have already been several BIG winners in lottery scratch-off games in our area. Frank Gillespie won $1,000 while playing the brand new “Fastest Road to $1 Million” game. In case you’re curious, that is the large purple ticket, which costs $50 to play. Some lottery players believe the big purple ticket is one of the most attractive scratch-offs on the market, because the lottery will be giving away 10 “One Million Dollar” jackpots. As for Mr. Gillespie, he purchased his scratch-off at the Mapco store on South Church Street near I-24 in Murfreesboro.

One of the biggest winners in recent months was announced on the very last day of January. Evidently, someone picked the right numbers when they purchased their lottery ticket about 60 miles south of Murfreesboro in Decherd, Tennessee. The winner claimed $2 million in the "Mega Millions" game after buying their ticket at a Franklin County gas station.

Playing the $10 Black Ice Scratch-Off game, a Shelbyville woman took home an oversized check with $500,000 written on the front. She was one lucky lady! The fun continued a little over an hour away from Rutherford and Bedford Counties in the rural area of beautiful Lincoln County, where another person won $40,000. That particular young winner was playing the Mega Millions game when she hit it big!

For those who are still following along, the Tennessee Powerball is up to $133 million, with the next drawing scheduled for Saturday night (02/08/2025). The Tennessee Mega Millions game is sitting at $94 million, but that could change on Friday when the winning digits are announced. Lotto America has also been piling on the cash, with the current jackpot at $23.5 million! A new winner will be announced on Friday night.
