Murfreesboro, TN - The League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County, the United Way of South Central Tennessee, and the Human Development and Family Science Program and Social Work Department of Middle Tennessee State University are set to present an important ALICE Report program on Tuesday evening (2/18/2025) at MTSU’s Miller Education Center, 503 East Bell Street, Murfreesboro.

ALICE, an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. It is a new way of defining and understanding the struggles of households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but not enough to afford basic necessities. Currently, 46 per cent of the households in Rutherford County live on the verge of financial instability and struggle to meet basic needs.

The program will provide a detailed presentation on select components of the ALICE report.

Several organizations, including Launch Point, The Family Center, Legal Aid Society, Workforce Essentials, Murfreesboro City Schools, and Rutherford County Schools, have been invited to share their experiences providing direct services to ALICE families.

The discussion will focus on what actions neighbors, employers, public leaders, and other community organizations can undertake to effectively decrease the 46 per cent of households living on the verge of financial instability.

The League of Women Voters, United Way, and the departments of Middle Tennessee State University are all nonpartisan organizations and welcome everyone to participate in this program.
