SHELBYVILLE, TN - On Monday, the suspect of a child sex related investigation in Shelbyville, TN remains behind bars in the Bedford County Jail. 47-Year-old James Howard Reed, Jr. was arrested by Shelbyville detectives this past Friday, January 17, 2025. Authorities report the military contractor from Crewe, Virginia, traveled from the area of the Fort Campbell, KY military base (at the Kentucky-Tennessee border) to Shelbyville with the intent to engage in sexual activities with who he believed was a 10-year-old female juvenile.

Reports indicate the suspect is facing a single charge of Rape of a Child (T.C.A. 39-13-522). His bond was set at $200,000 and he could make a brief appearance before the General Sessions Court as early as Tuesday, January 21, 2025 for an initial hearing. What follows will be considered an arraignment, which would be before the Circuit Court of Bedford County. During that hearing information from a possible indictment will be formally read to the suspect.

Again, Reed is currently behind bars at the Bedford County Justice Complex, which holds the courtrooms for the county and a 415-bed jail.
