Murfreesboro, TN – A man living in the Blackman Community on Dundee Court has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide, according to Rutherford County Sheriff’s Detective Capt. Todd Sparks. The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into the death of his wife at their home on January 9, 2025.
The 87-year-old suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2025. He is currently being held under a $700,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center in Murfreesboro.
On Wednesday morning, WGNS learned that the suspect, identified as Sorace, is no stranger to the law, having previously served as an assistant police chief with the Metro Nashville Police Department. He also worked under Metro PD Chief Joe Casey, who served as Chief of Police in Nashville from 1974 to 1989.
Sorace even testified before Congress during the Civil Rights Movement, discussing the riots that occurred in Nashville in 1968. At that time, he was reportedly injured on Centennial Boulevard during the riots when a rock struck him from behind. The front windshield of his unmarked police car was also shattered when rioters threw numerous rocks at his patrol car.
As of Wednesday morning, he remains behind bars. Reports indicate that a hearing has already been scheduled in General Sessions Court for February 24, 2025.
