TDOT I-24 traffic cam, snowfall so heavy it's hard to see the wreck in front of the 2 police vehicles

Rutherford County, TN - The interstate system here in Rutherford County challenged motorists throughout Friday (1/10/2025) morning. There were several westbound (traveling toward Nashville) single-vehicle crashes.

The intensity of the snow seemed to vary dramatically from minute to minute and by location. Some of the TDOT traffic cams showed one-lane in each direction appeared to be flowing smoothly. However, there were places when the snow was coming down so hard that it was difficult to see what was happening.

There were several multi-vehicle crashes (westbound toward Nashville) that blocked lanes of traffic at miles markers near I-840 connection, along with all Murfreesboro exits.

In addition, Friday morning I-24 westbound traffic was also hindered with single-vehicle crashes at mile markers 97 and 112 in Coffee County.

Travel on both the interstate and other roadways is expected to get significantly worse as the day continues. Early Friday morning travel began with a dusting and continued to get deeper. Local accumulations are expected to get near 8-inches before the day is over. Since temperatures are not expected to go over the freezing point (32-degrees), there will not be any melting.

Saturday temperatures will peak at 34-degrees, so no huge melting. However, Sunday’s forecasted 42-degree high should clear most roadways.
