Saturday AM: Check I-840 and I-24

Dec 28, 2024 at 11:04 am by WGNS

The final weekend of 2024 started with traffic issues on both I-840 and I-24 in Rutherford County. This follows population studies indicating that this county has now surpassed Hamilton in the number of residents, making it the 4th largest in the Volunteer State. This increased population brings people, more cars, and consequently more accidents.

Interstate-840 eastbound (toward Lebanon) in Rutherford had an overturned tractor-trailer rig at mile marker 49.8.  It was reported at 5:51AM (CST, 12/28/2024). The eastbound right lane of 2 Lanes was blocked as well as the right shoulder as well.

THP Sgt. Russell Bernard told WGNS that this was a single-vehicle accident involving a 2019 Freightline. 48-year old Konstantin Pokotilo of Florida was traveling east on I-840. His big rig traveled off the left side of the roadway, re-entered the roadway, overturned, then traveled off the right side of the roadway.

The report shows that Pokotilo was wearing the seat belt and was not injured.

Interstate-24 eastbound (toward Chattanooga) in Rutherford had a congestion issue at mile marker 95.4 reported at 10:07 AM (CST, 12/28/2024). The eastbound right shoulder was blocked due to debris on the interstate.

As we approach the New Year, let us all strive to reduce "road rage" and make Rutherford County an even better place to call "home".
