Murfreesboro, TN - It seems the "Grinch That Stole Christmas" has struck in Murfreesboro. Boy Scout Troop 197, which has been selling Christmas trees at Fellowship United Methodist Church for 19-years, recently fell victim to a thief who made off with 98 Frasier Fir trees in the middle of the night.
The troop's Facebook page notes that they have about 100 trees left to sell before the season ends, and they are hoping to come out ahead despite not raising prices in these economic times.
This theft translates into a $12,000 loss for the troop, which relies on this fundraiser as their only source of income.
One young scout expressed hope that the thief would return the trees, as the troop will be lucky to break even.
Despite this setback, Troop 197 will continue selling the remaining trees through December 20th or until they are all sold.
If you wish to support these scouts, you can donate or even add a few bucks over the price of the tree you purchase to help the scouts out. Visit their tree stand in Murfreesboro at Fellowship United Methodist Church. And while they maybe a few trees short – 98 trees to be specific - these scouts are still set-up and selling Frasier Fir Christmas trees. They have about 100 trees left, as of Thursday, and their address is 2511 New Salem Highway., Murfreesboro, TN 27128.
