MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is urgently seeking witnesses to a fatal three-car collision that occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 4, just before 1 p.m. on outbound NW Broad Street near I-840. 24-year old Tamara Craig of Manchester was pronounced deceased-at-the-scene.

Preliminary findings suggest the female driver of a 2020 Kia Rio may have improperly changed lanes, colliding with a 2015 Kia Optima. Both vehicles were traveling south on NW Broad Street when the impact forced the Kia Rio into the northbound lanes, where it was struck by a 2013 Volkswagen Beetle. Debris from the collision also hit a Chrysler minivan traveling northbound.

The 24-year-old female driver of the Kia Rio was pronounced dead at the scene. Craig was alone in the vehicle, and the mother of two. No other injuries were reported. A Go Fund Me account has been set-up in her name.

FACT investigators are examining whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Possible drugs and an open bottle of alcohol were discovered in one of the vehicles.

Additionally, the driver of the Kia Optima, 19-year-old Brandon Alexander, was arrested at the scene on two unrelated outstanding warrants for theft and criminal simulation. Officers also found a loaded AR-15 in Alexander’s car.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by FACT.

Witnesses to the collision are encouraged to contact FACT investigator Officer Derrick Bush at 0867@murfreesborotn.gov.
