(MURFREESBORO) - A tragic car crash in Murfreesboro claims the life of a 14-year-old Blackman student. Three others were injured in the Tuesday morning crash.
According to Murfreesboro Police, the accident occurred at 11:04 a.m. at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Kingdom Drive. The passenger in the front seat of an Audi A4 sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 16-year-old driver and another 14-year-old passenger, who was in the back seat, were transported to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital and then transferred to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital.
The 47-year-old driver of an Acura MDX SUV involved in the crash was also taken to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford. The driver and two teen passengers in the other vehicle are being treated for non life-threatening.
The teenagers involved were students at Blackman High School, returning from a state volleyball tournament at Rockvale High School when the accident occurred.
Preliminary findings from the police suggest that the driver of the Acura was making a left turn onto Veterans Parkway, crossing into the path of the Audi.
Rutherford County Schools Chief Communications Officer James Evans tells NewsRadio WGNS they aren't releasing the names of the students out of respect for the families and their privacy. He adds, "This is a heartbreaking tragedy for our school community, and we have additional counselors available at the school today (Wednesday) for anyone who needs to speak with someone."
