EAGLEVILLE, TN - Mr. Dennis, as the students from Eagleville School know him, was not at the Eagleville High School football game this past Friday night when the Eagles battled Wayne County, because he was in the hospital.

Dennis Pugh has been on the sidelines since Eagleville first had a football field for home games in the early 2000’s. He’s part of the chain crew, keeping up with the signal poles while marking the current set of downs… That was Joseph “JoJo” Wilson, the son-in-law of Mr. Dennis…

It wasn’t until 2017 that Mr. Dennis began working at Eagleville School… Several years later, medical problems once again crept up on him, which has led to an extended stay in the hospital…

Mr. Dennis is not only passionate about prep-football, but also family… Wilson told WGNS that Mr. Dennis is very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always making time for every sport they play… Whatever sports 8 to 12-year-olds are a part of, he’s there – when he’s not facing such serious health concerns.

He’s been out of school for several weeks, while under a doctors care at Ascension Saint Thomas West in Nashville. Once children on the elementary side of Eagleville noticed his absence and have been mailing him get well cards… To help out his family, who have to drive back and forth to Nashville to visit him at the hospital, several people have given his family a variety of giftcards to help cover the cost of meals while on the go, or to top off their gas before making the 60-minute drive.

The beloved custodian, who has a passion for family, football and life, will be out of work for approximately 3-months for surgery and recovery.  If you’d like to help by providing a word of encouragement, get well cards and /or gift cards - they can be dropped off at the front office of Eagleville School between 8 AM and 3 PM, the Eagleville Mercantile or at WGNS.
