The 12th annual Lambert Dillard Memorial 5K/10K and Kids’ Fun Run returns to Smyrna on October 19, as part of the 2024 YMCA Race Series. Sponsored by Publix Charities, the race honors the memories of local domestic violence victims Angi Ross Lambert and Carla Dillard. Held at Sharp Springs Park, the event will benefit the North Rutherford Family YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign while raising awareness about domestic violence.
The race day begins early, with the Kids Fun Run kicking off at 7 a.m., followed by the 10K at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 7:45 a.m. In addition to the competitive races, families can enjoy games and activities, creating a day of community spirit and togetherness. The event concludes with an awards ceremony celebrating overall winners. Rain or shine, the community will come together for this powerful cause unless extreme weather poses a threat.
The Lambert Dillard Memorial Run began in 2012 when a group of local high school classmates sought to honor the memories of Angi and Carla, two local women who lost their lives to domestic violence. Since then, the event has become a Smyrna tradition, bringing neighbors together to raise funds and awareness for the Y’s charitable mission. Proceeds from the race have provided financial assistance for Y memberships, outreach programs, and essential community services.
More than just a race, the event serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of domestic violence and the strength of community. As the Y continues its mission of inclusivity and support, the Lambert Dillard Memorial Run stands as a symbol of hope, honoring the victims and inspiring future generations to take a stand against domestic violence.
