Murfreesboro, TN – The $17.1 million transit center that the City of Murfreesboro is constructing near the corner of the New Salem Highway and Bridge Avenue is coming along well (above photo taken from the sidewalk in front of the construction site on 9/7/2024).
Construction began a year ago and it is expected to be open in 6-months (April, 2025).
Basically, the facility has two sections. One is 2,375 square foot passenger pavilion. The other offers bays in which the City’s buses can be taken for maintenance. This part also includes the administration offices for the Murfreesboro Transportation Department. That section will have 3,200 square feet of space.
Murfreesboro’s Transportation Director Jim Kerr indicated that the entire facility and system is designed to make it comfortable for customer to change from one bus to another and make travel easy and fast.
In a WGNS broadcast, Mayor Shane McFarland, “The new facility will not only be a passenger on and off area for Murfreesboro Transit buses, but for Nashville’s We Go, as well as services like Greyhound.”
Presently Murfreesboro Transit offers seven routes within the Heart of Tennessee. They are weekdays (M-F) from 6:00AM to 6:00PM. In addition, city bus routes are run on Saturdays from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.
Reports indicate that plans include additional routes and times in the future.
NewsRadio WGNS will keep you updated on the progress with the new City Transit Center, as well as expansion of the routes.
