RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Ah, the sweet sound of your phone ringing—only to be greeted by a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned cash. In Rutherford County, these criminals are now stooping to new lows by using the name of Sheriff’s Major Kyle Evans to trick residents into forking over money. Let’s make one thing clear: the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office will never call or text you asking for money for missing jury duty or any other court-related issues. So, if you get one of these calls, do yourself a favor—hang up.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the Tennessee Attorney General's Office recently flagged a scam involving—get this—toll roads. In case you didn’t know, Tennessee doesn’t even have toll roads. So, if you get a text about an unpaid toll in Tennessee or another state, just delete it and block the number.

Other states won’t have your number, and they certainly won’t be texting you about unpaid tolls. Some states, like Florida, do have toll roads. However, the Sunshine State won’t send you a text. Their program, called TOLL-BY-PLATE, mails the registered owner of the vehicle a Toll Enforcement Invoice.

But wait, there’s more! Scammers are also using celebrities to separate you from your cash. They create fake charities, endorsements, and even phishing schemes using the likeness of your favorite stars. The Tennessee Attorney General’s Office and the Secretary of State are on the case, but it’s up to you to stay vigilant. Don’t let these con artists play you like a fiddle.
