SMITHVILLE, TN - On Friday, August 9, 2024, a body was discovered inside a vehicle parked in a cornfield on New Bildad Road in Smithville. Sheriff Patrick Ray confirmed that the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department received a call about the body at 3:23 PM on Friday, August 9, 2024.

As a result of the body being found, law enforcement agencies from Smithville, DeKalb County, Warren County, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation all responded to the scene. The case remains under investigation and the identity of the subject has yet to be confirmed.

Reports indicate the body is being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for an autopsy to identify the person. Currently, there are no further details available.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, along with local police and sheriff’s departments, are continuing to actively work on the case.
