Talk law and order with Murfreesboro Police Chief Michael Bowen, Lt. Clayton Williams, and PIO Larry Flowers:

  • Realtime CRIME CENTER is approximately 80% complete. The "gun sound" part can triangulate the sound of gunfire and direct officers to within 90-feet of where shots were fired.
  • MPD is looking at purchasing an established shooting range in the Pelham, TN area. They are checking with the City's legal department about this approach. There is no land in the city or county approved for "shooting range". Chief Bowen talks about the transition from shotguns to rifles.
  • Size of police department: There are 333 budgeted positions at MPD for FY 2024-25 (not all filled). Figures show the estimated number will be 465 by FY 2033.  Currently, MPD is now using "officer per population ratio".
  • With fewer persons applying for the openings in police and investigative work, more investigations are having evidence placed into computeer programs. Amazingly, cases are being resolved by AI detectives more quickly than ever.
  • Back-to-school driving in school zones
