MURFREESBORO - Middle Tennessee Electric crews have been busy this week with back to back stormy days producing high winds and power disruptions. Spokesperson Amy Byers says they weren't without issues
Monday was the stormy day that caused the most widespread outages, about 27-hundred at its height:
The National Weather Service says an EF-0 tornado with winds up to 75 mph left a trail of trouble from around North Maple Street to past MTSU's campus and eventually across Rutherford Boulevard at Double Springs Branch. It was the first July tornado on record for Rutherford County since the 1800's. Damage from Old Fort Parkway, across Memorial, to Bridge Avenue and eventually to East Sevier Street was caused by downburst winds of 80 mph.
Byers reminds us all that we can't discount summertime pop-up storm systems:
A great resource for customers when the power goes out is the outage map on MTE's website, MTE.com. Byers says the outages reported on the map are the most accurate way to see hotspots of disruptions during and after storms.
