RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - The temperature outside is dangerously high and will remain so throughout the weekend and next week. Heat index values could reach as high as 112 degrees, making it crucial to stay well-hydrated and to check on your loved ones.

Helping to combat the high heat index, local resident Dwight Ogleton is aims to provide free fans and window unit air conditioners to those in need. His program called Cool Aid, which was established over 20 years ago, provides fans and air conditioners to individuals who cannot afford them, helping them stay cool during the scorching summer months.

As temperatures soar in Rutherford County, residents are urged to be cautious and understand the risks associated with extreme heat.

One common issue are air conditioners and fans not working effectively enough to cool homes or rooms. While fans can help, AC's are still 100% needed. Young children, including newborns and toddlers, are particularly at risk of overheating.
