League of Women Voters Foster Political Awareness in Murfreesboro with Political Forum

In other news regarding elections, the League of Women Voters will host a political forum featuring candidates for the Murfreesboro City Council race. The candidates participating in the forum include Matt Herriman, Kelly Northcutt, Bill Shacklett, Kirt Wade, and Shawn Wright. Notably, three of the five candidates are currently serving existing terms on the council. Those incumbents include: Vice Mayor Bill Shacklett, first elected in 2002, Councilmember Kirt Wade, first elected in 2016, and Councilmember Shawn Wright, first elected in 2020.

The forum will be held in the Murfreesboro City Council Chambers on Monday, June 24th, at 6 PM. During the event, candidates will introduce themselves and respond to a series of questions from a moderator. Each candidate will answer the same questions, which have been developed by the forum hosts.

Election Day is set for August 1st, with early voting scheduled from July 12 through July 27. The public is invited to attend the forum or watch it live on Murfreesboro City TV, available on Comcast Xfinity Channels 3 and 1094, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, YouTube, Facebook, mobile devices, and the City’s website: www.murfreesborotn.gov.

In addition to the League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County, the event is also hosted by the Middle Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women (MTLAW) and the Rutherford County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (DST), in conjunction with the City of Murfreesboro. According to the League of Women Voters, these organizations are nonpartisan, focusing on studying and taking positions on issues without supporting, endorsing, or opposing any candidate, party, or political appointee.
