Tallahassee, FL - On the evening of April 29th, tragedy struck as 20-year-old Elizabeth "Ellie" Sims, a sophomore at Florida State University (FSU) and a proud native of Franklin, Tennessee, was fatally hit by a vehicle near the university campus.
Ellie, who hailed from Franklin and graduated from Page High School in the same town, was leaving the library when the accident occurred. Despite utilizing a crosswalk, she was struck by the vehicle allegedly driven by 18-year-old Willis Trueblood Jr., who allegedly fled the scene, leaving Ellie severely injured.
Tragically, despite efforts to save her, Ellie succumbed to her injuries. Trueblood was later apprehended and faces serious charges, including leaving the scene of a crash involving death, which could lead to up to 30 years in prison. Trueblood Jr. pleaded not guilty.
This devastating incident has left a profound impact on both the FSU community and Ellie's beloved hometown of Franklin, where everyone is mourning the loss of a dear member.
