(MURFREESBORO, TN) WGNS now has further details on the Sunday morning accident that tragically claimed a life at precisely 4:56 AM this past weekend. The incident occurred on I-24 East, heading towards Chattanooga, near the South Church Street exit in Murfreesboro.

One driver, identified as 22-year-old DeJon M. Reed of Georgia, was traveling eastbound on I-24 when his vehicle veered off the right side of the road, colliding with a tree. The Toyota Corolla then swerved back towards the interstate, striking a light pole, before spinning into oncoming traffic and colliding head-on with a Jeep Latitude.

As a result of the collision, 23-year-old Timothy Brown of Arizona, the driver of the Jeep, sustained injuries when his vehicle overturned. Tragically, passenger Zoe Kacyndra Sheila Leonard, also from Arizona, lost her life when the SUV was struck head-on, overturning in the process. However, a toddler who was also in the Jeep miraculously escaped unharmed, likely due to proper child restraints in the SUV.

The crash further escalated when an approaching vehicle became entangled in the wreckage while attempting to maneuver around the accident at highway speeds. Subsequently, one motorist lost control, skidding into a barrier wall on I-24 East. Reports show that the same vehicle hit the concrete wall in an attempt to avoid the two vehicles that were in the initial collision, which was the head-on crash between the Toyota Corolla and the Jeep Latitude.

According to a preliminary crash report obtained by WGNS on Monday, charges are pending against 22-year-old Reed, the driver of the 2020 Toyota Corolla. No other individuals involved in the incident are currently facing charges, as confirmed by the same report.
