Over the years some of the faces have changed, but one thing has remained the same. Oakland high school is still the swimming champions of Rutherford County.

  Since swimming was introduced as a high school sport and a Rutherford County swim meet was created, Oakland has been the deciding force. Except for a seven year stretch that saw Smyrna claim the title ( 2004-2010), the Patriots have worn the crown in this County. The 2024 meet was more of the same as Oakland took the boy's trophy with 85 points as Rockvale was second (76) and Central Magnet was third (57). The girls portion of the meet was dominated by Oakland as the Lady Patriots earned 106.5 points with second place Central Magnet tallying 51. Siegel finished third with a total of 37.5. Winning both boys and girls titles meant Oakland also took the team title.

  The Patriot win on the boy's side was keyed by the overall depth of the squad. Evan Hayes scored one of the few upsets in the individual events as he won the 500 freestyle with an unwavering effort that left the competition tasting bubbles. On the girl's side a couple of Lady Patriots stood especially tall for a dominant Oakland squad. Freshman Lyndel Laudencia won both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in fine fashion. In the 100 she established a new Rutherford County meet record (55.33). Senior Allie Bromley was definitely dominating in this her final County meet as a Lady Patriot. Winning both the 100 butterfly and and 100 backstroke by open lengths, Bromley was spectacular to say the least.

  The County championship was the second for Patriot head coach Drew Brewer in as many years.  Oakland will complete the season on February 9 and 10 with an appearance at the Tennessee State High School Swimming Championships.
