The coldest temperatures in over a year have made their way into Middle Tennessee and the National Weather Service has a reminder to "Remember the 4 P's"!

Since we will remain in the deep freeze until Thursday with another blast immediately following, meteorologists remind you to take action steps to protect people, pets, plants and pipes.

If you're planning to go outside, bundle up and dress in layers. You should make sure all exposed skin is covered. Also, they suggest making sure you have emergency supplies like flashlights, extra batteries and an emergency heat source in the event of a power outage. Plus, be sure to keep a close eye on the very young and elderly.

As for your pets, bringing them inside is the best option. But if you have larger animals and those you can't bring in, make sure they have plenty of extra bedding and even blankets to keep warm. Also, check water several times a day since it will freeze after a short time outside.

The third "P," plants. They're going to have to have extra care. Bring those in as well - like potted plants. You can also cover plants that must stay out in the elements to help them keep in some heat.

Finally, pipes! Outside facets should be wrapped up and insulated to the best of your ability. Attached hoses should be disconnected. It's also a good idea to keep the water dripping inside and open cabinet doors to allow in more heat.
