RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Rutherford County residents should brace themselves for an impending cold front that will dramatically drop temperatures over the weekend and into the beginning of next week, when the windchill is expected to hit (negative) -5 degrees on Tuesday and -6 on Wednesday. According to forecasters, it looks as if the Arctic temperatures will begin dropping Friday night.
Despite a seemingly mild Friday with a daytime high of 58 degrees, a significant plunge is expected come Friday night, reaching a bone-chilling low of 23 degrees, accompanied by a windchill of 12.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Friday, spanning from 6 AM to midnight. During this period, wind speeds are anticipated to range from 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 55 miles per hour, potentially causing hazardous conditions.
Saturday night will bring even colder temperatures, dipping down to 20 degrees, setting the stage for an arctic blast that will intensify on Sunday and Monday nights. Residents can anticipate Sunday night temperatures to plummet to 15 degrees, with a windchill making it feel as cold as 7. Additionally, there's a 40% chance of sprinkles turning into snow showers.
As Martin Luther King Jr. Day approaches on Monday, the high is projected to reach only 27 degrees, accompanied by a 20% chance of snowfall. Monday night is forecasted to be exceptionally frigid, with a low of 8 degrees and a windchill plummeting to (negative) -3 degrees. Another 40% chance of snow adds to the wintry mix.
By 6 AM on Tuesday morning, the windchill will hit (negative) -5 degrees. But the coldest morning appears to be this coming Wednesday. At 6 AM, the windchill is expected to hit (negative) -6 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
