RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Rutherford County's Property Assessor, Rob Mitchell, is gearing up for the upcoming Republican primary as he seeks re-election to continue his almost twelve-year tenure in office. A Middle Tennessee native and MTSU graduate with a Business degree, Mitchell brings a wealth of experience from his background as a former small business owner and independent insurance agent. His campaign emphasizes a commitment to better government services and reduced operating costs for taxpayers.

Mitchell expressed his dedication to the citizens of Rutherford County, stating, "Serving my fellow Rutherford County citizens as their Property Assessor has been the honor of my professional life. I look forward to continuing the excellent service my office provides for everyone in our great county."

Over the years, Mitchell has spearheaded efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations. One notable achievement is the implementation of Smart Rutherford, a technology-driven platform that allows citizens to receive assessment notices via email, resulting in significant cost savings for taxpayers.

Under Mitchell's leadership, the Assessor's office has returned nearly $5 million to Rutherford County citizens through innovative and efficient practices. He has also secured state grants to replace outdated vehicles with fuel-efficient hybrids, setting a responsible example for resource utilization.

Mitchell's commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed, earning him the prestigious Excellence in Operation award from the Tennessee Association of Assessing Officers. His office has consistently received Three Star Awards for four consecutive years, showcasing their unwavering commitment to excellence.

Noteworthy among Mitchell's accomplishments is a proposed change in legislation that would help senior citizens who have lived in their community for 20 years or longer, regardless of income. After retirement, paying property taxes can be hard when you live on a fixed income. In Tennessee, the state has some programs to help seniors with property taxes, but not everyone can use them. To qualify, the total income of you and your spouse, plus all the owners of your house, can't be more than $33,460. Since many older folks can't get this help, there's an idea in the works called the Golden Homeowners Tax Relief program. This could help all senior homeowners, not just some. Right now, Rob Mitchell is leading this effort in the state, and he already has more than 2,000 signatures to support this new law. If it passes, it would be a major gift to seniors aged 65 and older because it would make paying bills less burdensome. Additionally, he led the initiative to achieve the First Property Tax Abatement for Historic Properties in state history.

Endorsed by a diverse group of community leaders, including TN State Senator Shane Reeves, TN State Representatives Tim Rudd and Charlie Baum, and various county commissioners and business owners, Mitchell's campaign is gaining momentum. His contributions have even earned him national recognition, including the esteemed John C. Donehoo Award from the International Association of Assessing Officers.

Despite managing the Assessor's office with thirty percent fewer staff members during a period of substantial growth in Rutherford County, Mitchell's office has achieved the lowest cost per property assessment for comparable counties.

As the Republican primary approaches, Rob Mitchell presents himself as a candidate with a proven track record of effective leadership, innovative solutions, and a dedication to the well-being of Rutherford County and its citizens. See local property values and more HERE.
