MURFREESBORO, TENN – In a significant milestone for Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & SurgiCenter (MMC), the recently opened MMC Westlawn brings a new era of accessible and specialized care to the community.

The healthcare offices at MMC Westlawn house primary care physicians specializing in Internal and Family Medicine and Pediatrics Departments. Beyond primary care, the facility offers a range of specialty services, including specialists in Allergy, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, and Otolaryngology (ENT). Patients can also benefit from laboratory, radiology, and infusion services, creating a one-stop healthcare destination.

Joey Peay, Chief Executive Officer of MMC, highlighted the expansion's significance, stating, “Having access to high-quality healthcare closer to home has been a goal of the physician-owned medical practice since its inception in 1949.” The commitment to proximity and quality care is further exemplified by the Gastroenterology department, which has served the middle Tennessee community for over 35 years.

Since 2008, MMC Gastroenterologists have performed over 90,000 endoscopy procedures in the SurgiCenter on Garrison Drive. The new Endoscopy Center at MMC Westlawn, equipped with six procedure rooms, addresses the growing demand for endoscopy services. “By opening the new Endoscopy Center of Murfreesboro Medical Clinic with 6 procedure rooms, we are well positioned to meet the endoscopy needs of this community for years to come,” noted CEO Joey Peay.

The expansion responds to the changing landscape of healthcare, with the recommended age for screening colonoscopies lowered from 50 to 45 due to an increase in colorectal cancer diagnoses in younger individuals. Dr. Brian Smith, MMC Gastroenterologist, emphasized the importance of colonoscopies in preventing colorectal cancer, stating, “A colonoscopy is one of the few screening tests that can actually prevent cancer.”

The MMC Westlawn facility not only addresses the immediate healthcare needs of the community but also aligns with MMC’s commitment to providing a cost-effective, closer-to-home alternative to hospital settings. The recent opening of MMC Westlawn marked a significant stride towards comprehensive and accessible healthcare services for the residents of Murfreesboro and the surrounding areas.
