(SMYRNA, TN) Several area fire departments answered a call Saturday (11/25/2023) to the 9000 block of Briley Road. First responders reported heavy smoke could be seen plummeting from the thickly wooded rural roadway.

As units from Smyrna, Almaville and Rutherford County Fire Departments arrived, they described an abandoned structure that was already totally destroyed by the blaze.

Once firefighters killed the flames, there was nothing left but a stone chimney

Since the inferno was in a rural forest type environment, it was important to get all of the fire extinguished to avoid the possibility of the surrounding woods igniting. Thankfully, some rain had fallen in the area. Prior to that, Rutherford County fire marshals had imposed a ban on "open burning".

Briley Road is a well-maintained, paved and unmarked two-lane rural road that is heavily wooded on both sides. It connects with Rocky Fork-Almaville Road.
