About 3-hours southeast of Rutherford County in Atlanta, Georgia, police are trying something new to curb theft at the mighty retailer... Walmart announced this past September plans to reopen a store that previously shutdown due to shoplifting, but with a new police substation inside the store. Evidently, the reopening will take place in May of next year.

According to officials, the presence of police is expected to deter thieves and allow officers a place to complete paperwork and recharge equipment. The Atlanta Police Department will open their new substation when the store completes their build, which will be a new smaller neighborhood market after thieves set fire inside the original store as a way to distract attention from their shoplifting efforts.

So far this year, the Walmart company has closed over 20-stores, some of which were closed due to safety concerns. In addition to the Atlanta store, some of the other locations in high crime areas include the shutdown of 4 stores in Chicago, Illinois, 1 store in Albuquerque, New Mexico and 1 store in Portland, Oregon.
