As we approach the holidays, you can expect to hear more and more about scams. While WGNS typically highlights scams in Rutherford County, this story is too close to home to ignore.

Neighboring Williamson County Sheriff's Deputies continue to receive fraud/scam reports, involving thieves that operate by trying to convince their victims they're providing a legitimate service, and some of the scam artist are very convincing. Over the last few days, it's been reported that subjects are using the names of Deputy Zach Taylor, Lieutenant Chris Mobley, and Captain Freddie Moore.

Although there are times the Williamson County Sheriff's Office will reach out to members of the community by phone, employees of the Williamson County Sheriff's Office will NEVER ask for money through the purchase of gift cards or any other online outlet such as Paypal, Venmo, or Cash App. Just hang up if someone calls you asking for money.

Lt. Mobley's name was used several years ago in a scam that cost one person thousands of dollars. Then, the con-artist demanded money for fines, fees and bonds while convincing the victim that these items needed to be paid for them to avoid an arrest for missing a court date. The caller asked for the money on pre-paid cards.

Officials ask that residents in Middle Tennessee not fall for this scam. As heard in past newscast, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office will never call residents asking for money, nor will the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
