(MURFREESBORO) While MTSU's Peck Hall was closed Wednesday due to a suicide by a contracted worker, the facility re-opened on Thursday (11/2/2023). MTSU President Sidney McPhee said, "The university’s thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and coworkers of the victim."

MTSU President Sidney McPhee said, "MTSU Police Chief Edwin Kaup and Larry Flowers, spokesman for Murfreesboro Police and Fire Rescue Departments, said officers responded this (Wednesday) morning, Nov. 1, to the discovery of an apparent fatality in Peck Hall. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and it was later determined that the victim took their own life. The victim was a contract worker and not a student or university staff member. The identity of the victim is pending notification of family.
The incident has led to a police presence at Peck Hall on the university campus. It has also led the university to cancel classes in the building that has traditionally been used for both literature and psychology departments.
