MURFREESBORO, TN - An 18-year-old from Murfreesboro was killed in a two car crash on Tuesday morning. The wreck occurred on Franklin Road, which is also known as Highway 96 at about 7:30 in the morning.
A man driving a Kenworth big-rig was attempting to turn into a job site when another vehicle slammed into the rear of his trailer. Witnesses say the semi-truck was pulling a low-boy trailer that is used to haul construction equipment like bulldozer's and backhoe's.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the wreck happened in front of the construction site for a new retirement community being built, and near the Royal Glenn subdivision on Highway 96.
Troopers told WGNS News that 18-year-old Jakaiya Hughes ran into the rear of the trailer and was confirmed to have died. One motorist who stopped near the scene of the wreck said, “The sun was blinding to drivers in the lane headed into Murfreesboro that morning, and that may have made it hard to see the stopped big-rig.”
No charges were filed against the driver of the big-rig.
