RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – The North Rutherford Family YMCA in Smyrna will host its annual Lambert - Dillard race this Saturday, October 14. The event serves as a fundraiser to support Y programming and services, and to raise awareness around domestic violence (October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month).
Each year, the race honors Angi Ross Lambert and Carla Dillard, who were both killed by their significant others. Lambert who lived in Smyrna, was 40-years-old when she lost her life in 2012. She was a cheerleader in high school and the homecoming queen. However, nothing made her more proud and happy than her children.
Dillard, who lived in Murfreesboro, was only 30 when killed in 2013. Like Lambert, she too was a proud mother. Dillard grew up in the Manchester area where she attended Coffee County Central High School.
Again, the upcoming Lambert - Dillard Memorial 5K and 10K are being held this Saturday in honor of Angi Ross Lambert and Carla Dillard, who both lost their lives to domestic violence. The Kids Fun Run begins at 7 AM, the 10K will start at 7:30 AM and the 5K begins at 7:45 AM.
The race will be at Sharp Springs Park in Smyrna (1000 Espey Drive).
Since 2013, the YMCA in Smyrna has hosted its Lambert-Dillard 5K/10K in the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors. Since the first event, race proceeds have enabled the YMCA to provide thousands of dollars in financial assistance for membership, fund critical outreach programs and to ensure all neighbors have access to the Y.
