Rutherford County School Board Chair Tammy Sharp will not seek another term. She tells WGNS Roundtable host Dr. Bill Kraus in an email that she received a recent diagnosis of breast cancer and will not seek another term as chairman.

Sharp said, in an email, " have had an unwavering commitment to the betterment of our schools and an advocate for education in our community for years (she) will continue to do so as a regular board member for the remainder of my term."

She went on to say, "serving as the Chairman of the Rutherford County School Board has been a privilege and an honor. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated educators, administrators, and board members who share my passion for providing quality education to our students."

Sharp said the recent diagnosis of breast cancer requires her full attention and will focus on her health and treatment. It's for that reason she says she will not be able to give the attention to serve as chairman and give the job the attention it deserves.
