UPDATED - WGNS has more news on an August 1st shooting that occurred during a road rage incident in Antioch, which involved a driver who works for a Rutherford County company. The shooting happened on I-24 West at the Bell Road interchange as the victim, who was driving a metal recycling truck into Nashville, was slowed by bumper-to-bumper traffic.

According to Metro Police, a man in a lifted Ford F-250 pickup truck was pulling onto the interstate and into the path of the victim, who was operating the commercial big rig... That was Kevin Berta, who owns and operates Express Recycling in LaVergne. Berta’s driver Jim Bright was slowed by Nashville traffic when the lifted pickup pulled into his lane of travel, which forced him to stop.

The Express Recycling truck had a camera onboard that was capturing the situation unfold, frame-by-frame… As the pickup drove away, the passenger in the backseat of the truck opened fire… A single bullet went through the windshield and what followed, is anything short of a miracle… The bullet was miraculously stopped by the Garmin GPS unit that sits on the dash of the recycling truck... Berta said the incident could have easily turned into a fatality.

Shortly after detectives began investigating the shooting, Berta gave Metro Police the video footage from his company’s truck, which police released to the media. Following the video being publicly shared, the driver of the lifted pickup turned himself in… Because the video evidence appears to have cleared the driver of the pickup in the shooting, it leaves the lingering question… who was the backseat passenger that fired the shot towards the Express Recycling truck? As of August 16th, that question has yet to be answered.

All that stood in-between the bullet and that driver, Mr. Bright, was a GPS unit that by the looks of things - - saved the drivers life. According to Berta, his driver was retired and simply picking up a few hours in his retirement.

The seconds and minutes that followed the shooting were likely the hardest on Jim Bright’s wife… After Bright had a chance to reflect on what occurred…
