RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - You can enjoy a rewarding golf competition while providing funding for Rutherford County Schools’ students during the 3rd annual Special Needs SRO Golf Tournament Sept. 16 at Cedar Crest Golf Course.
Sheriff’s school resource officers sponsor the golf tournament to raise money for a Fun Day for special needs’ students in the county schools, said SRO Sgt. Dustin Cox, who coordinates the tournament.
All the money raised helps the special needs’ students in the county schools.
SROs host a special needs fun fair in March that provides a field trip day for students to enjoy a magic show, petting zoo and a fun-filled day with inflatable games.
“They’re ecstatic,” Cox said of the students’ reaction to the activities. “They walk in and see the animals and inflatables and the magic show and they are in awe. They love it.”
SROs need golfers to play and businesses to sponsor a hole and donate items for the silent auction so the students can enjoy the memorable fun day.
The $400 fee includes golf and a cart, range balls, lunch and fellowship. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place.
On course contests include the longest drive and closest to the pin.
