MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Middle Tennessee State University Board of Trustees will hold committee meetings on Tuesday, Aug. 15, in the Miller Education Center, (Second Floor Meeting Room, 503 Bell St).
During the last board meeting, Vice Provost Amy Aldridge Sanford with the College of Graduate Studies recommended several potential new graduate degrees. She told board members the courses for the five degrees would all be online. Trustee Tom Boyd moved to approve the consideration of five master’s programs. The graduate courses include the topics of Organizational and Professional Communication, Digital Media, the Music Business, Project Management, and a Master’s in Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Enrollment looks to be on the upswing, after the COVID Pandemic changed the face of college. Vice President Deb Sells reported freshmen applications were up 14% as of March 1. Sells also said that “…freshmen admissions were up 5%.” In addition to the increase of freshmen students, transfer applications and admissions are also up.
In MTSU Sports, Athletics Director Chris Massaro shared with the board the successes of the men’s and women’s basketball teams, “…noting that in addition to the women’s championship win, their GPA has exceeded 3.5 in the last few semesters.” Also in athletics, the new tennis facility is coming along. The university broke ground on the new $7.1-million outdoor tennis complex in September of last year. The facility is being built at the corner of Middle Tennessee Boulevard and Greenland Drive, next to the Murphy Center. It is replacing the previous tennis courts that have been a part of the campus for years. MTSU reported, “This new state of the art facility will serve as the on-campus home of MTSU’s men’s and women’s tennis programs, featuring new locker rooms, spectator facilities for 250 Blue Raiders fans, eight upgraded tennis courts and new coaches’ offices, among many other amenities.”

Academic Affairs, Student Life, and Athletics Committee: 9 a.m. Agenda items include approval of minutes; approval of academic department merger; enrollment report; and athletics report.
Executive and Governance Committee: 10 a.m. Agenda items include approval of minutes; discussion of 2021 self-evaluation instrument, results, and action for improvement; review and approval of 2023 self-evaluation instrument; authorization to conduct board self-evaluation prior to November 2023 committee meeting; and report on strategic planning process.
Finance and Personnel Committee: 11 a.m. Agenda items include approval of minutes; classified employee grievance annual report; and philanthropy update.
Audit and Compliance Committee: 12 p.m. Agenda items include approval of minutes; annual report for Audit and Consulting Services; quarterly internal audit reports; results of external reviews; and risk assessment reporting.
