Earlier this year in May Richard Canada, who went by the name of Rick Canada, was convicted on 8-counts of rape in the courtroom of Chancellor Howard Wilson. 2-Months later on July 14th, Canada was back in court to be sentenced for the the convictions. WGNS confirmed with the Circuit Court on Monday that Richard Canada was sentenced to spend 11-years in prison. The sentence called for 100% of that time to be served behind bars.

Rutherford County Assistant District Attorney Sara Davis prosecuted the case for the state on May 1st and 2nd. Davis told WGNS more about the 8-counts of rape that Canada was convicted of... Davis said the victim in the rape case was brave in coming forward with the allegations that led to the conviction and sentencing...

Canada has been a longtime figure in the community and was known for his volunteer work, often in the field of running. Prior to the rape allegations, Canada routinely worked with local non-profits that hosted fundraiser 5 and 10k runs. Canada has also volunteered as a cross country coach for high school cross country teams.

Prior to the case going to court, Murfreesboro Detective Tiffany Host met with the victim and investigated the allegations that arose from an incident in July of 2021. The detectives' investigation led to a Grand Jury Indictment 8-months later. The end result equaled Canada being convicted on 8-counts of rape and sentenced to serve 11-years in prison.
