Smyrna Man Arrested on Ten Vehicle Burglary Charges in Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN – Detectives with the Nashville Violent Crimes Division in coordination with officers assigned to the Vehicle Crimes Reduction Initiative arrested a Smyrna, TN man wanted on ten vehicle burglary warrants from an incident on July 5. Reports from Metro Police show that 20-year-old Austin Chapman was identified as the suspect breaking into cars in a 4th Avenue North parking garage and stealing items from those vehicles.

Chapman was seen by witnesses after car alarms were set off in the garage. One witness attempted to detain Chapman, but he fled on foot. In the process, Chapman dropped his hoodie, a glove, hat, two keys and a tool used to break windows in the process.

The Rutherford County resident was booked into the Davidson County Detention Center on July 9th. He was charged with ten counts of motor vehicle burglary and one count of theft. Chapman is currently being held on $51,000 bond. As of Tuesday evening (July 11), he was still behind bars.
