MURFREESBORO, TN - Using a fake check is never a good idea and can land a suspect in a heap of trouble. In fact, the crime we're about to tell you about could be a Class C felony, if the purchase was between $10-thousand and $60-thousand dollars. The potential for a prison sentence grows stronger and longer if the value of the property taken is worth more than $60-Grand, making it a Class B felony.
Murfreesboro Police need help identifying a person of interest in what appears to be the theft of two different vehicle's, after it was realized the two cashier checks used to buy a 2016 Porsche Macan and a 2016 Range Rover Sport, were fakes. The incident happened one day before Independence Day, which would have been Monday of last week (July 3, 2023).
According to Murfreesboro Police, the unknown buyer of the sport utility vehicle's showed up at Absolute Auto on Southeast Broad Street in an Uber. Workers at the small dealership told detectives the man was with a female and another male when they arrived. The three appeared to be positive prospective customers that were in search of luxury vehicle's. When it came time to decide on their purchases, they made no qualms about it – they were ready to buy themselves a Porsche and a Range Rover.
To make the high dollar buy, the trio are accused of using two fraudulent cashier's checks. Without hesitation, the paperwork was signed and the purchase agreement seemed complete, following the key-fobs being exchanged for the checks. Again, the two luxury brand SUV's were both purchased at Absolute Auto, across the street from the Discovery Center last Monday.
It's not known if the persons of interest used their real identity to call for the Uber that transported them to the dealer, or if the Uber was even a real Uber? Nor has it been confirmed if the person who drove the Uber to the car lot was in on the scheme. This is a case that appears to be a serious felony. If the suspect or suspects are nabbed and found guilty of a Class C or Class B felony, they could be looking at room and board in a facility that boasts six by eight feet of living space for 3 to 30-years. According to Tennessee Law, Class C felonies typically carry a prison sentence of 3 to 15-years. Class B felonies can come with 8 to 30-years behind bars if the suspect or suspects are found guilty and sentenced accordingly.
