MURFREESBORO, TN - Shoplifting is a growing problem in Rutherford County and surrounding areas. In one case that was reported last month, a woman walked out of the Memorial Boulevard Walmart with three flatscreen TV’s that she failed to pay for. Murfreesboro Police Public Information Officer Larry Flowers stated… In that case, the female reportedly purchased soft-drinks at the self checkout kiosks and left with her beverages and the three stolen flatscreen TV's, that were reported as stolen by Walmart management.
Lt. Clayton Williams said the MPD will be happy to send officers by local stores to discuss new ways of tackling shoplifting problems…
In another recent case, two subjects entered Bath & Body Works in the Avenue and allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of scented candles. WGNS asked Flowers if an arrest has been made in that shoplifting incident… A similar theft was reported in the Davidson County area and police evidently believe the same culprits may have hit stores in both Murfreesboro and Nashville.
