Right to Life and other organizations both for and against abortion, continue to fight on both sides of the political aisle in Tennessee… some to ensure that abortion is always illegal in the Volunteer State and others to make it legal.

Tennessee is currently labeled as being one of the most restrictive states on abortion policies, completely outlawing abortion with very little exceptions. On Saturday, officials with Tennessee Right to Life say they will continue to work to keep abortion illegal by keeping “Pro-life” elected officials who support current Tennessee laws in place.

Those laws explicitly exclude the so called right to abortion. State Medicaid coverage of abortion care is also banned, except in very limited circumstances. One of several bills that passed in 2023 prohibits tax dollars from being used by local governments to fund or reimburse travel expenses to abort unborn children in other states (SB 0600 / HB 0090). That bill went into effect on April 17th of this year.
