MURFREESBORO, TN – A California man who was arrested outside of a hotel in Murfreesboro this past May was indicted by a Rutherford County Grand Jury earlier this month for allegedly trafficking thousands of fentanyl pills.

On May 4, 2023, Jaylen Troy Arjona was taken into custody by members of the Murfreesboro Police Department Special Investigations Division and agents with the TBI. As a result of the investigation into the 22-year-old man, Murfreesboro Police reportedly seized approximately 14,000 fentanyl pills.

WGNS confirmed that Arjona was recently served a sealed indictment and is facing three counts of manufacturing, sale, and delivery of a Schedule II drug, and four counts of money laundering. MPD Public Information Officer Larry Flowers told WGNS in an email, “Arjona traveled to Murfreesboro to collect payment for the pills.  He also had five kilos of cocaine he planned to sell as well.”

The investigation into the suspect lasted for several months and included three separate shipments of fentanyl pills through the U.S. mail. The drug trafficking case was investigated by not only Murfreesboro Police and the TBI, but also law enforcement agencies in California.

Now that the case is in the hands of the Rutherford County Circuit Courts, a plea date has been scheduled for August 23, 2023. Judge Barry Tidwell is presiding over the court case. Arjona remains behind bars in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
