More to the Story of Harold's Hog Wash BBQ Sauce - Harold Wilcox grew up in a farm house along a dirt road in rural South Carolina, which is where his story began. As a child, he recalls making friends with the nearby neighbors who lived on the same dirt road... Watching and helping his friends and their dad barbecue on the weekends is where he picked up the knack of making homemade barbecue sauce.

In South Carolina, Harold became a teacher after graduating from college and eventually a school principal. However, he was lured away for a sales job with a company called Jostens in 1974... Jostens, a company known for their class rings and high school graduation gowns, took him from South Carolina to North Carolina and lastly, Tennessee.

Despite his busy career, he never lost his passion for barbecue and formulating the perfect sauce. In fact, he further grew that talent and took it from the Carolina's to Tennessee... Of course back then, he thought friends were merely blowing smoke...

Harold continued to make his sauce for friends and family and jokingly suggested it helped his son get through college... And that was when Harold's passion to make his signature barbecue sauce, turned into a commercial enterprise. As for the name, we asked him how his sauce came to be known as Harold's Hog Wash... The name stuck, and now it will be available locally in the gift shop at Mill's Family Pharmacy on South Church Street.

The popularity of his sauce quickly grew... He then entered his sauce into the National Barbecue Association's sauce contest... Today, Harold lives in nearby Fayetteville, TN and consider's the Volunteer State home.

MEET AND GREET AT MILLS - On Thursday, Harold Wilcox will be serving up samples of his Hogwash BBQ sauce between 2 PM and 5 PM at Mills Family Pharmacy. On Friday, he will be at Mill's between 1 PM and 4 PM. He will interact with guest, tell a few stories and answer any questions that customers may have about his sauce.

Mills Family Pharmacy is at 2994 South Church Street. The pharmacy is also home to a unique gift shop that offers customers hard to find home décor items and gifts!
