You may recall hearing the May 18th story about several Christiana Middle School students eating a candy bar that reportedly contained “Magic Mushrooms.” After the incident occured, the Rutherford County Schools confirmed what took place. One caregiver told WGNS… While the candy is available online, some may be selling it illegally in the local area.

WGNS has since confirmed that candy bars believed to contain magic mushrooms were seized by authorities 35-miles southeast of Murfreesboro in McMinnville, Tennessee. There, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, McMinnville Police Department and the District Attorney Generals’ Office executed a search warrant at a home on Willow Way. The incident ended with arrests a matter of days before the children at Christiana Middle School reportedly ate chocolates that reportedly contained mushrooms.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office reported, “Upon searching the premises of the house, 221 vapes of various strands were located, along with three (3) firearms, approximately 2.5 pounds of marijuana, mushroom candy bars, drug paraphernalia  and over $1,100.00 in cash.” Officials in Warren County noted the search was concerning to law enforcement due to the THC content contained in the vapes, which varied from 90.0% up to 92.9%.

While there have been few reports of children eating mushroom containing candy bars in our area, officers, as well as Warren County School Officials have reported an increase in THC vape use by students, resulting in many having to seek medical attention after vaping before or during school. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office noted, “The effect of the extremely high level of  THC  contained in these vapes is extremely dangerous to the health and welfare of our youth.”

At this point, the search and seizure in Warren County has not been directly tied to the incident that unfolded at Christiana Middle School in Rutherford County, but WGNS will continue to follow this story.
