(MURFREESBORO) A Sunday (5/7/2023) crash on Armstrong Valley Road took the life of an on-duty Rutherford County Sheriff's detective. Fitzhugh said, “Detective Jacob Beu was a valued detective in the Narcotics Division. We send our sympathy to his family and his Sheriff’s Office family in his death.”
Deputies responded to the crash and found Beu critically injured. He died at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Detective Jacob Beu was a veteran sheriff’s office deputy. He was promoted to patrol corporal in March 2021. He was promoted as a narcotics detective last year. Beu was also a member of the armed forces where he served as a United States Marine in the U.S. Marine Corps.
In addition to some of the highlights of his career, the Detective served as a member of the SWAT Team. He and the SWAT Team earned honors as Officer of the Month in August of 2021 for their response at the devastating floods in Waverly and Humphreys County. Beu was honored by the Mothers Against Drunk Driving in 2018 for making numerous arrests of drunk drivers.
Funeral arrangements for Rutherford County Sheriff's Detective Jacob Beu will be announced later. Fellow peace officers are saying, "Rest in peace, Jacob. We’ll take it from here."

Emergency responders in Rutherford County and the Tennessee Highway Patrol joined the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office in transporting Detective Jacob Beu's body to the state Medical
Examiner's Office in Nashville Sunday afternoon.
The detective was on-duty when he died from injuries suffered in a traffic crash Sunday.
La Vergne Fire Department draped an American flag from a bridge over Interstate 24 to remember Detective Beu. He was a U.S. Marine.
The Sheriff's Office thanks all of the agencies who paid tribute to Detective Beu by joining the escort and displaying the flag as they passed under the overpasses.
