Murfreesboro Police Investigating Identity Theft Case

Murfreesboro, TN - A man from Florida contacted the Murfreesboro Police Department after an unknown subject allegedly went to a Murfreesboro bank and attempted to cash a large check using a driver's license from Florida, that was complete with the victims signature. Local authorities say they confirmed the man was contacted by Truist Bank on Old Fort Parkway, who told the victim about the incident. The check that the unidentified male allegedly tried to cash was for $5,500.

The MPD reported, “The unidentified man also presented the bank teller with the Florida man's social security number. “ Detectives are working this stolen identity case that is also a case involving attempted bank fraud. As for the Florida victim, he told police he has never been to Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Police say, “The unknown man has attempted to cash fraudulent checks at banks in Johnson City, Kingsport and Hixon, Tennessee." Detectives ask, “If you know who this person is, please contact Det. Ray Daniel at 629-201-5512 or email 0409@murfreesborotn.gov.”
