Murfreesboro, TN - Another scam has hit the Murfreesboro area. According to Public Information Officer Larry Flowers, the 911 center has received several calls about someone claiming to be a Lieutenant with the Murfreesboro Police Department. The man tells potential victims his name is Lt. Troy Black with the Murfreesboro Police Department.

As the caller continues, he advises advising the local resident that they have warrants for their arrest. The MPD advises that those who receive such a call to be aware and not to fall for such a scam. Police say the best way to handle the call is to simply hang up! Murfreesboro authorities will not be calling you about a warrant, or to request a payment over the phone, nor will they ask for gift cards or for anyone to send them money through a financial service app.

Meanwhile, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is advising citizens to hang up if they receive a call about missing jury duty. Several residents have reported receiving a phone call requesting payment for missing jury duty. Despite the phone calls, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office says that they will never solicit money. More so, if someone is required to serve in jury duty, the courts will not contact you by mail. Instead, residents are notified about jury duty by mail, not phone.
