Murfreesboro, TN - The future Westpark, that will be built in Murfreesboro’s Blackman community, is slowly coming to fruition. The City of Murfreesboro switched or traded land that the city owned with land that was owned by Middle Tennessee Electric. The land that Murfreesboro owned was near the I-840 / Veterans Parkway intersection, while the land owned by Middle Tennessee Electric was in more of a residential area of Veterans Parkway. Now that the land swap has been finalized, the city has owned the property for about 3-months. Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland stated
The City of Murfreesboro already has money set aside to fund the new park... City officials are looking to start work on the site this fall and a design firm will likely be contracted by early next month (May 2023). Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland discussed some ideas of the park amenities… The parcel of land that was owned by the City of Murfreesboro consists of 116-acres, while the Middle Tennessee Electric property was 149-acres in size. Mayor McFarland said the MTE land is large enough to include not only a new city park, but a future city school as well.
